Gov't approves cash subsidies for 0.5 mln families in need

The Cabinet approved on Tuesday cash subsidies for 500 thousand cases of families in need within the Social Welfare Fund in light of results of the field survey.
This move by the Cabinet comes to implement the recent directives of President Ali Abdullah Saleh to the government, which included adoption of 0.5 million new cases within the social security network, the creation of a fund to support university graduates and exemption of Yemeni students enrolled in public universities from paying the remaining parallel tuition fees for 2010-2011.In its meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi, the Cabinet took operational actions to implement the presidential directives.In this regard, the Cabinet directed Ministers of Social Affairs and Labor and Finance to speed the completion of procedural steps for the social security benefits of those new cases as of the current February.In addition, the Cabinet approved the establishment of a fund to support university graduates, who have not attended to work so far, to ensure the provision of job opportunities for them and begin to absorb 25 percent of them this year according to the mechanisms and programs to be adopted by the fund.The Cabinet formed a ministerial teamwork to prepare organizational and institutional regulations of the fund and identify its resources and submit the results to the Cabinet within a month for discussion and approval.Furthermore, the Cabinet approved to exempt the Yemeni students enrolled in public universities from paying the remaining parallel tuition fees for the academic year 2010-2011
