Yemeni-Turkish relations date back to the sixteen century. Turkish President Abdullah Gul is in Yemen tomorrow Monday to boost these relations.
The key purpose of the Turkish president's visit is canceling visas between the two countries. The two countries will sign ten agreements and cooperation programs in field of security, economy, media, technical education and higher education as well as cooperation between private sectors in the two countries. The following dates shows Yemeni-Turkish relations across the history. 1635-1538O: Ottomans launched military campaign against Yemen and the start of the first Ottoman rule in Yemen. 22 rulers rule the country in this period. 1872-1917: Ottoman Second Rule in Yemen. 15 rulers ruled the country in this period. 1926: A commissioner to Yemen in Ankara was appointed. 1928: Turkey appointed political representative in Yemen. 1970: Turkey acknowledged the Yemen Arab Republic. 1984: President Ali Abdullah Saleh visited Turkey and tackled with his counterpart bilateral relations between the two countries. 1986: Turkish prime minister paid a three-day visit to Yemen. 1991: Yemeni minister of trade visited Turkey in the framework of Azmir festival. 1992: Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul-Karim al-Eryani visited Turkey and signed memo of understanding in field of diplomacy. 1993: The two countries signed health cooperation agreement. 1996: Parliament Speaker Abdullah al-Ahmar visited Turkey and signed parliamentarian agreement between the two countries. 2000: Yemeni-Turkish Joint Committee held its first meeting in Ankara. October 2000, Ministers of electricity in both countries signed agreement in field of electricity. 2001: Yemen and Turkey singed cultural, educational, media and sport program. May 2001- Yemeni and Turkish businessmen held talks in Sana'a. May 2005- Yemen and Turkey signed security cooperation in Sana'a. May 6- Yemen and Turkey held talks in field of General Staffs. September 2005- The works of Turkish-Yemeni joint committee concluded the third round work and signed four treaties in field of tourism, youth and sport, trade and minerals. October 2005: President Saleh receives Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyep Erdogan in Sana'a and discussed with him brotherly relations between the two countries. 2006: Turkish air launched its first flights to Sana'a. December 2006: Turkey opened the honorary consulate in Aden. 2007: Yemen and Turkey signed protocol in cooperation in field of higher education. 2008: Yemeni-Turkish relations conference concluded in Sana'a. February 2008- Yemeni-Turkish state talks held in the republican palace in Turkey between President Saleh and President Abdullah Gul. 2009: Yemeni-Turkish state talks between the two foreign ministers held in the ministry of foreign affairs in field of economic and cultural cooperation. 2010: Yemeni-Turkish joint committee concluded its fifth round in Ankara.
