Consultative meeting on human rights in Yemen

The European Union (EU)'s mission in Sana'a organized on Tuesday an expanded consultative meeting with organizations working in human rights field in Yemen within the celebration of World Day of Human Rights. At the opening, Head of the EU's mission to Yemen ambassador Michele Cervone D'urso praised the role of defenders of human rights and the anti-discrimination against women.He pointed out that this consultative meeting comes to view the current situation of human rights and to come up with visions and recommendations to improve the overall situation of human rights and how the EU can contribute to this, taking into account the customs and values of Yemen, which do not violate basic human rights.The Yemeni government's obligations represent a key route to work in various areas of human rights, especially through the ratified international conventions, such as the Declaration of Human Rights and the Charter of Political and Civil Rights and others.In the meeting, attended by a number of EU countries' ambassadors and representatives of organizations working in human rights field, three papers were presented on the political and civil rights, freedom of expression and information, and gender-based violence.In addition, General-Director of International Outreach at Ministry of Human Rights read the recommendations of the periodic review of human rights issued by the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations.
