Islamic preacher Amr Khaled left Sana'a on Monday after participating in the opening ceremony of a training program targeted 70 Yemeni preachers from several provinces.. The one-year program aims at spreading moderation and moderate ideologies among Yemeni youth in the country.
This program comes as part of a project funded by the Yemeni government to face the extremist ideas of al-Qaeda members.
The government has concluded weapons of the army alone were not enough to uproot al-Qaeda in the country, forcing it to work at other levels - a campaign to spread moderation among Yemeni youth.
Egyptian preacher Amr Khaled, who is ranked among the moderate preachers, started his religious mission, which has political dimensions, from the southern Yemeni port city of Aden. "The project seeks to uproot extremism and spread moderation, the real face of Islam, and present the bright image of Yemen to the whole world not through Yemen's allies, whose role is to push forward the Yemeni youth, but through youths themselves, who should take the initiative to stop extremism and spread moderation’’, Khaled said. This step is part of a new awareness project, which also includes training new young preachers all over Yemen's governorates
