An agreement was signed on Wednesday to extend
the project of food aid program for displaced people in a number of provinces
at a total cost of over USD 29 million with funding from the World Food
Programme (WFP
The
agreement, signed by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation
Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi and the WFP's Representative Gian Carlo, stipulated that
the WRP provides USD 29.02 million for extension of the food aid program for
displaced people through the distribution of food for all the displaced and the
comprehensive supplementary feeding program, which targets children in the age
groups between 6-59 months.The project
includes funding Food for Work (FFW) Initiative, after the pattern of the
initiative implemented by the Social Fund for Development within the
labor-intensive projects program. After
signing the agreement, al-Arhabi commended the role played by the WFP in
helping Yemen to face the
challenge of food security, especially with regard to malnutrition, as Yemen is one of
the lowest rates of malnutrition in the region.
For his
part, the WFP's official confirmed the WFP's keenness to continue to provide
all aspects of possible support to the Yemeni government's efforts to achieve
the food security in Yemen.
