President letter to Japanese premier handed over

Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi has met with his Japanese counterpart Seiji Maehara.During the meeting, al-Qirbi handed over Maehara a letter from President Ali Abdullah Saleh to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan, relating to mutual relations between Yemen and Japan
The Yemeni official stressed that Japan is a key partner in the development process in Yemen, pointing out that bilateral relations have developed significantly since President Saleh’s visit to Japan in 2005.For his part, the Japanese minister expressed his country's desire to expand areas of cooperation and support to Yemen, especially in combating terrorism, pointing to his country will increase support provided to Yemen in the next year and reconsider presenting soft loans.Meanwhile, al-Qirbi reviewed with the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister of Japan aspects of joint cooperation between Yemen and Japan and ways of enhancing them.Al-Qirbi praised Japan's role in providing support to the Yemeni government, especially in the areas of education, health, infrastructure projects, the Coastguards and the fight against terrorism and piracy.He also hailed Japan's effective role in the Friends of Yemen, expressing Yemen’saspiration to strengthen cooperation so as to achieve the desired goals and Yemen can move forward to apply national reforms and meet the current challenges.For his part, the Japanese minister confirmed the depth of Japanese-Yemeni relations, stressing his country’s support for Yemen's efforts to face challenges, especially development and economic sides as well as support the Yemeni Coastguards.
