Fourteen wanted al-Qaeda members, including 5 leaders, surrendered themselves on Monday to security authorities in the southern Yemeni province of Abyan, governor Ahmad al-Misari said in a statement.
Al-Misari said that the surrender of those elements took place in the light of the tough security measures taken against them as well as efforts of the local authority, social figures, clerics and their parents to convince them to surrender themselves to the security authorities and end any links to al-Qaeda, violence and terrorism. In addition, the Yemeni official revealed that five wanted men others will surrender themselves to security services during the next two days.Al-Misari stressed that the Yemeni security and military campaign to cleanse the two districts of Lauder and Mudia of Abyan have achieved the desired results in cracking down on terrorist elements of al-Qaeda, pointing out that the security services arrested three wanted elements during the past two weeks.He added that the Yemeni campaign will continue to catch the terrorist elements and bring them to justice.
