Qatari Diar to complete arrangements to set up al-Saleh Medical City in Taiz

Chief Executive of the Qatari Diar Real Estate Development Company, Ahmed al-Mazroui confirmed on Monday the company's keenness to complete arrangements to start the establishment of al-Saleh Medical City in Taiz soon. This came during a meeting gathered in Sana'a Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Hisham Sharaf and the Qatari Diar official. The two sides reviewed a number of issues relating to enhancing frameworks of the existing cooperation between Yemen and the company, especially with regard to the completion of arrangements for the establishment of the al-Saleh Medical City in Taiz province by Qatar Foundation for Development in Yemen. Hisham considered the establishment of the city would represent a qualitative addition to the level of medical services provided in Yemen. He praised the announced trends of the Qatar Foundation in enhancing and supporting the Yemeni government efforts to improve the medical and health services in Yemen through funding the al-Saleh Medical City project in Taiz. For his part, the Qatari Diar's official noted to the steady development witnessed by the bilateral cooperation relations between Yemen and Qatar. In July 2007, Yemen and Qatar singed an understanding memorandum to set up a Qatar foundation for development in Yemen for financing Yemen's developmental program in fields of industry, agriculture, tourism, health and education. The memorandum stipulated that the Qatar Foundation would invest USD 500 million to support economic and social development in Yemen. As its first project in Yemen, the Qatar Foundation will carry out a $200 million al-Saleh medical city. The remaining $300 million will be used in other projects to be announced later.This fund is Qatar's pledges to support developmental projects in Yemen during the donors' conference held in London in November 2006.
