WB-funded project to support water sector in Hadramout discussed

Undersecretary of Hadramout for Valley and Desert Affairs Omair Mubarak met on Thursday the Expert of environmental and social aspects at the World Bank (WB).
At the meeting, they discussed ways to implement the water sector support project in the valley and desert of Hadramout, which is funded by the Bank. Omair emphasized the importance of this project as one of vital projects in the water and environmental aspects and the need to form a coordination council to manage this project.He pointed to the environmental problems experienced by Hadramout province due to the heavy rains and floods disaster witnessed by the province in October 2008, which affected a lot of water facilities, noting that this requires concerted efforts by the Reconstruction Fund and the European project to support water sector.In this regard, Mubarak praised the WB's contributions to the various environmental and water aspects in Yemen.For his part, the WB's Expert presented an explanation on the project which aimed to concert efforts of the four sectors concerned with the environmental and water affairs, represented in the project of rural water, water resources project, water and sanitation project for urban cities, and irrigation project for water and environment conservation.He pointed out that the project would oversee the support for these four sectors through gathering the support provided by the Yemeni government, German and Dutch donors, and the WB.The main goals of the project are to maintain providing clean drinking water to the population and to pay attention for environmental, social and institutional building aspects, he indicated.In the meeting, a committee was formed to manage the project, headed by Mubarak and membership of the four sectors representatives and the branch of environment protection council in the province
