Yemeni official meets GTZ's team of Historical Cities Development Project

)-Secretary-General of Local Council of Hodeidah province Hassan al-Haij met on Monday with team of the Historical Cities Development Project at the German Corporation (GTZ),led by the project's director Bert Hard.
In the meeting, al-Haij affirmed that the province leadership is about to issue a decree on constructing the governmental buildings in the historical city of Zabid according to the archaeological architecture style of the city to preserve Zabid within the World Heritage List.The random construction in Zabid would be stopped and the irregularities would be removed, al-Haij noted pointing that the province's leadership would work with the World Heritage Fund to reduce the haphazard construction and to identify features of the city by a historical and archaeological map.He pointed to the need to create a comprehensive awareness among citizens of Zabid through the various media to raise awareness of the dangers and harms of unregulated construction in Zabid.Also, al-Haij confirmed the keenness of the province's leadership and local council on the development of Zabid in accordance with the plans, programs and field studies prepared with participation of the Social Fund for Development and the World Heritage Fund and the World Bank in order to restore Zabid's historical and archaeological status.For his part, the GTZ's official reviewed stages and key steps for joint action to preserve Zabid within the World Heritage List and the importance of finding solutions to prevent the unregulated construction in the city
