SCER, UNDP sign $ 3 mln agreement to support elections

The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) and the United Nations Development Progamme (UNDP) signed on Saturday an agreement of USD 3 million to support elections Under this agreement, the UNDP allocates about USD 3 million to support the electoral support project's activities, which represent in enhancing the SCER's capabilities, and supporting legal and regulatory frameworks, updating the voters register, voter education, local control, and increasing women's participation in the elections.The agreement signed by Head of the SCER Khalid al-Sharif and Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Hisham Sharaf , and the UNDP's Resident-Representative Pratibha Mehta and Head of Delegation and Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Yemen Michele Cervone d'Urso. After signing the agreement, al-Sharif praised the contributions of the EU and the UNDP to support the SCER's efforts through offering all kinds of electoral support to Yemen.He hoped the continuation of the existing cooperation and partnership between the SCER and the international organizations concerned with the elections so as to contribute to the development of the democratic and electoral experience in Yemen.For their parts, the officials of the EU Commission and the UNDP praised the role of the SCER in enhancing the electoral process and the steps made by Yemen with regard to the promotion and consolidation of the democratic approach.The confirmed the keenness of the UNDP and the EU Commission to continue to provide support to help Yemen in the elections area
