Yemen, EU discuss security cooperation

Yemen and European Union (EU) discussed here on Wednesday aspects of security cooperation and coordination and ways of boosting them in all areas.
This came during a meeting gathered Interior Minister Mutahar al-Masri and Deputy Operation Commander of the EU Naval Force Somalia, Op ATALNTA, Admiral Thomas J. Ernst, with presence of Head of the EU's mission in Sana'a Michele Cervone D'urso. The two sides reviewed areas of the existing cooperation in the area of training, rehabilitation and technical cooperation, as well as coordination in combating maritime piracy in the Gulf of Aden and the Arab Sea.In the meeting, al-Masri reviewed the successes achieved by the Yemeni security bodies in all areas especially in combating terrorism and sea piracy.Al-Masri commended the current cooperation between the security agencies of Yemen and the EU, and the support provided by the Union for Yemen in the Police Academy and coastguard field. He hoped that this cooperation would witness further development in the coming period.For his part, Ernst valued the efforts made by Yemen in combating maritime piracy, voicing the readiness of the EU to provide more support to Yemen in the training and technical aspects to promote the capabilities of Yemen security bodies.He noted to the importance of communication and coordination in this aspect and with regard to combating maritime piracy.
