Yemen raises education expenditure to YR279 bln

Yemen has raised its value of expenditure for education, in all its levels, to YR 279 billion which represents 19 per cent of the state's public expenditure,almotamar.net reported on Tuesday.
The Supreme Council for Education Planning pointed out that, in its recently issued report, education in Yemen has witnessed huge development during the last ten years seen in the establishment of 16 thousand schools containing 5 million students. The establishment of governmental universities has increased to 14 universities, which 6 of them are still under implementation.The number of private universities has reached 32 universities and colleges, 17 of them are under implementation, with the capacity of about 253,816 students.Technical education and training institutes also witnessed an increase in their number to reach 67 institutes containing 25,098 students.According to the report, among other educational institutions,public education has got the largest share of expenditure at a rate of YR 202 billion.Higher education and scientific research has acquired the second rank of expenditure at a rate of about YR 55 billion recording 19.7 per cent of the expenditure total value. In comparison, the technical education and vocational training has attained the third position with a budget of YR 22,259 million in the previous year.
