Deputy Prime Minister for Economic
Affairs, Minister for Planning and International Cooperation, Abdul Karim al
Arhabi, met on Tuesday with a delegation from the World Bank led by officer of
poverty reduction and economic development management Bernard Funck.
They discussed aspects of
cooperation between Yemen and the bank as well as issues related to the
economic developments in the country. Al Arhabi briefed Funck on the
nature of economic challenges facing the government amid the current changes in
the global economy topped by soaring food prices and climate change impacts and
measures taken to address them.He also reviewed the governmental
efforts in fighting poverty through adopting a most effective mechanism focused
on the poor in rural and urban areas, as he stressed the importance of
strengthening cooperation between Yemen and donors and the bank to support the
anti-poverty policies.Funck said the World Bank will
continue to support the Yemeni efforts and reforms to fight poverty.
