Session on Yemen accession to WTO launched

Speaker of Shura Council Abdul-Aziz Abdul- Ghani launched on Sunday a discussion session on the economic and legal reforms support of Yemen accession to the World Trade Organization )WTO).
The session is organized by the Shura Council, Parliament and Industry and Trade Ministry in cooperation with the World Trade Center in Geneva.During the launching ceremony, Abdul-Ghani delivered a speech confirming the importance of the session, expressing his appreciationfor the efforts done by the negotiating national team. He confirmed the Council's support to Yemen joining to WTO, making reference to the importance of the big Yemeni market which needs more support to increase the marketing opportunities for the local products.For his part, Minister of Industry and Trade Yahya al-Mutawakel talked over the efforts done to support Yemen accession to WTO,saying Yemen has a chance to join to WTO by the end of 2010.He talked on the steps have been achieved until now topped by signing of bilateral agreements with China, EU, Canada and Australia.For his part, senior expert in the World Trade Center of Geneva Aref Husseion enhanced the expectations of Yemen's joining to WTO by the end of 2010, confirming that Yemen is about to achieve the Plan of legislation.In the session, three working papers have been presented on the WTO's agreements, Yemen's quest to access the WTO and the role of Yemeni private sector in the accessing process to WTO.
