Yemen and World Bank (WB) discussed here on Sunday the developments in the Groundwater and Soil Conservation Project (GSCP), particularly with regard to the government's contribution in the costs of maintenance and operation of spate irrigation facilities. Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi and the WB officer of GSCP talked about procedures for water users associations, focusing on the importance of creating mechanisms and ways of ensuring the sustainability of the associations in areas of agricultural services and in improving the water resources management in the basins.The two officials highlighted the importance of looking for new funding resources to support the water users associations to ensure the continuance of the water resources management after the project ends. They also discussed the preparations for the land visits, which would be paid by an international delegation to many governorates to be briefed on the GSCP's activities there and the achieved works during the previous period.
