Al-Ban affirms harmonizing national legislations with int'l agreements

A symposium was held on Thursday in Sana'a over the role of judicial authority in reinforcing commitment to international agreements, organized by Yemen Bar Syndicate, Sana'a branch, and the German Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Minister of Human Rights Huda al-Ban took part in the symposium, along with 75 participants from concerned bodies, who affirmed the importance of the judicial authority to influence via reinforcing commitments through enforcing international agreements and creating harmony between the national and international commitments and adapting legislations to encounter human violations.To join any international convention is not enough to assure respect for rights stipulated therein, however, respecting international commitments requires their translation on the ground, she noted. For his part, chairman of Yemen Bar Syndicate Abdullah Rajih made clear that a dignified human life cannot exist but by the protection of public rights and freedoms, affirming that the Islamic legislations and all heavenly legislations were meant to preserve such rights. Director of Friedrich Ebert Foundation Mahmoud Qaiyah spoke over the role of judicial authority in promoting commitments to international agreements pertaining to human rights and applying them while litigation. The meeting will also focus on proposals from Board of Trustees over the coming programs to be implemented after being presented to the executive council member states and then to the General Conference.
