Over YR 37 mn in Japan aid for water, education in Yemen

Japan has decided to grant approximately $ 180951 (YER 3795140) to implement water and education projects in Hajjah and Mahweet provinces, the Japanese embassy in Sana'a said in a statement. The aid comes under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects aimed at supporting small community-based projects in healthcare, basic education and drinking water supply in developing countries.$ 83951(YER 17210140) out of the grant would be used to implement a water tank, filter booth, channel and a water harvesting reservoir in the district of Mabyan in Hajjah in the far north.The project will help 1500 people.The rest of the grant would be directed to establish a girl school in the district of Bani Sa'ad in Mahweet. The school will receive 200 students.The grant was signed by Deputy Japan's ambassador to Sana'a Matahiro Yamajuchi and chairman of the Hajjah-based Adhwa'a al-Yemen Association Yahya Nasser al-Mathhaji and director general of the Educational Office in Mahweet Mohammed Nasr al-Anesi.Through April 1, 2008- March 30, 2009, Japan extended grants for 16 Yemeni organizations and associations amounting to $ 1.2 million to finance small-scale community-based projects under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
