Hodeidah Governor Ahmed al-Jabali discussed on Monday with a specialized team from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Program (WFP) the problems Yemen suffers from in the agricultural field.
The team's visit aims at conducting a study on the food security and agricultural product conditions in Yemen after the continual dryness wave witnessed by Yemen for several years. The meeting dealt with the impacts that have occurred in the agricultural lands due to the lack of rain and increasing the salinity ratio as well as decreasing the groundwater level.Al-Jabali noted that Hodeidah province is one of the Yemeni agricultural provinces which produce various food harvests, but it does not receive the complete support comparing with some other provinces, pointing that it produces about 30 percent of Yemen's agricultural product. For his part, Head of the FAO and WFP team affirmed that this study comes at request of Yemeni political leadership represented in Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. He indicated that this study would work on reducing the agriculture product deterioration and the burdens faced by farmers due to lack of rain and declining groundwater level which negatively affected the agricultural products in Yemen in general.
