One of al-Houthi rebellion leaders and two other rebels surrendered themselves in al-Abdein area, southern city of Saada, north of Yemen, after they were besieged by citizens and soldiers deployed in the area, an official source in Saada province has confirmed. Saada website has reported that the rebel Ghaleb Qaid along with two other rebels were trying to sneak to al-Abdein area with a quantity of munitions which they were determined to pass them to the rebel elements.The security bodies started investigating the seized in preparation for taking the legal actions against them, the source indicated.Meanwhile, the official affirmed the armed and security forces' progress in the different battlefronts and fighting units by straitening the rebels in several areas.The coming days would witness new victories against the rebels because of the cooperation of the honest people of Saada in the different areas, the source pointed out.Al- Houthi rebels have been launching intermittent wars against the troops since 2004.Since the fighting erupted in 2004, thousands of people, soldiers and insurgents have been killed in Saada province, which located close to border with Saudi Arabia, after the rebel group was founded by rebel leader Hussein al- Houthi.Hussein, the eldest brother of the current group leader Abdul-Malik, was killed by the army in September 2004.The Yemeni government accuses the Houthi group of trying to reinstall the rule of imams, which was toppled by a republican revolution in northern Yemen in 1962.In last August, the Yemeni government announced conditions for a ceasefire in the area but it seem the defiant rebels have not yet accepted the conditions.
The truce conditions are:
1- Full withdrawal from all Saada districts and eliminating all checkpoints from all roads.
2 - Coming down from mountain peaks and ending banditry and sabotaging.
3 - Giving back all military and public equipment seized during battles with the troops.
4 - Establishing the fate of six foreigners, a German family comprising of parents and three children and a Briton, who all available information suggest were kidnapped by the rebels in June.
5 - Handing over kidnapped Saada locals.
6 - Stopping interference in the local government's responsibilities.
Al- Houthi rebels have been launching sporadic wars against the troops since 2004.
