Governor of Hadhramaut, Mr.Al-Khanbashi, met today with the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Mr. Julien Harneis, to discuss the latest developments in the humanitarian situation and relief and development efforts across the governorate's districts.
During a telephone call, they discussed mechanisms for transitioning from emergency aid to sustainable development projects that directly impact citizens' lives in the water, health, and electricity sectors.
Governor Al-Khanbashi welcomed the UN delegation's visit, praising the vital role played by the United Nations and its international agencies in supporting the local authority's efforts, particularly given the current circumstances in the country.
The governor commended the implemented projects aimed at improving basic services and alleviating the burdens on citizens. Governor Al-Khanbashi emphasized the critical importance of the issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Hadramawt, noting that the governorate has received a large number of displaced families from various other governorates. He stressed the need for intensified UN interventions to provide them with healthcare, shelter, and education, ensure their integration, and offer necessary support to the communities hosting them.
The governor reiterated the local authority's commitment to providing all necessary facilities to guarantee the freedom of movement of international organizations' staff and the implementation of their projects in all districts.
For his part, the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Julien Harneis, expressed his deep appreciation for the model of stability and cooperation with international organizations that Hadramawt presents. Mr. Harneis commended the governorate's efforts in accommodating IDPs and providing them with a safe environment.
He affirmed that the UN places the growing needs of Hadramawt, particularly regarding IDPs, among the top priorities of its upcoming humanitarian response plans.
