Culture Minister Mohammed al-Maflahi is to inaugurate a Photograph
exhibition for German traveler Hans Helfritz in the National Museum on
June 21. The exhibition, to be held from June 21 to August 04, would include about 100 historical photographs hitherto unseen in Yemen in addition to items of intangible cultural heritage in the form of songs, recorded by Helfritz with the most sophisticated equipment of the time, a phonograph. The exhibition has started at the Sultan's Palace Museum in Mukalla, continued to the Sultan's Palace Museum in Seyoun, and eventually traveled to Aden, where it was held at the German Consulate. The exhibition will now conclude in Sana'a. The exhibition is a great opportunity to display the German support of Yemen's cultural heritage and to bring the photographs back to the place where they were taken, as the exhibition emphasizes the excellent and long-standing cultural ties between Germany and Yemen. The exhibition's photographs are supposed to become a permanent donation to an Antiquities Museum in Hadramout Governorate later.
