A Saudi humanitarian aid agency has undertaken operating the Artificial
Limb Center in the southwestern Yemeni city of Taiz, as per a pact
signed on Tuesday.
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, under the pact, will also operate a similar center in Marib east of Yemen. As many as 5829 people who lost their limbs by Houthi-laid landmines are expected to benefit from the cooperation project.
The Saudi mine action program (MASAM) operating in Yemen since May 2018 said on Wednesday it has so far extracted more than 16,000 Houthi-laid landmines in only two districts of Taiz, Mawza'a and Al-Wazi'aya. The recorded casualties from landmines there amounted to 800 people.
