Emirati sources said that the United Nations adopted UAE
draft decision denying NGO consultative status to Fondation Alkarama at UN
ECOSOC.
The foundation is accused of providing support to
organizations included in terrorists list in more than one country.
The UAE Mission to UN said on its account on Twitter that
" UAE draft decision denying NGO consultative status to Fondation Alkarama
at UN ECOSOC is adopted by consensus".
"UAE decision is due to Fondation Alkarama ties to
terrorism and founder Abdalrahman Al Nu'aymi name on several terrorism
lists," it added expressing UAE thanks to the members of the ECOSOC for
standing firm against terrorism and extremism by not granting consultative
status to Fondation Alkarama.
Noting that " The role of Civil Society is key for
better policy making, but NGOs links to terrorism are incompatible with UN
Charter and ECOSOC Res 1996/31".
