A cholera outbreak in Yemen has now surpassed 300,000 suspected cases
since it erupted 10 weeks ago , the Red Cross said Monday.
ICRC regional director Robert Mardini said "over 300,000 people are suspected to be ill and about 7,000 new cholera cases were being recorded daily".
According to the organization, "by last Friday there were 297 thousand and 438 affected cases and 1706 deaths, but the organization did not publish a daily update on Sunday when it appeared to be heading to reach the level of 300 thousand cases, and a spokesman for the organization asserted that the Yemeni Ministry of Health is still analyzing the figures .
Cholera has spread rapidly in other parts of the country, although the rate of daily increase in total cases has halved to just over 2 percent in the past few weeks and the spread of the disease has slowed in the most affected areas.
