President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi sent on Tuesday a cable of congratulations to the newly-elected President of Tunisian Republic Beji Caid Essebsi, who won Tunisia's presidential elections on Monday.
Hadi in his cable praised the fair and free atmosphere of the presidential elections, wishing Essebsi the best of luck to achieve the great Tunisian people's aspirations.
He also vowed to enhance the historical fraternal relations between Yemen and Tunisia during the upcoming period.
On Monday, the 88-year-old Essebsi secured 55.68 % of the vote in the run-off round, winning Tunisia's first free presidential elections. His Islamist-tied opponent, Moncef Marzouki, received 44.32 % of the vote.
Essebsi is the head of the secular Nidaa Tounes Party, which gathers leftist politicians, trade union leaders, businessmen and old regime figures. He was a minister in Habib Bourguiba's government, and a speaker for Bin Ali's regime. His party won a slight majority in the last parliamentary elections.
