Yemen calls for funding national nutrition strategy

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Farid Mujawar has called donors to finance the First Strategic Nutrition Framework in Yemen as it includes long-term development issues aiming at reducing malnutrition in the country.
Mujawar, who delivered Yemen's speech while participation in the Second Conference on Nutrition commenced here on Wednesday, talked about the significance of holding the conference as it coincides regional and international changes and the continuation of negative effects of economic crisis and political and security turmoil in a number of areas in the world that affected Yemen and developing countries.
"Despite crises inflicting our country, we seek to build a new Yemen ruled by system, law and transparency," said Mujawar, adding the new Yemen that combats corruption, enhances integrity and believes in partnership with the international community in facing challenges.
For his part, Minister of Public Health and Population Riyadh Yaseen, who also participated in the conference organized by WHO and FAO, said that more than 50 percent of Yemen's population suffer lack of food security and more than 45 percent of children are malnourished, a matter led to health complications and negative aftermaths.
