Yemen, WB review progress of power projects

Yemen and the World Bank (WB) have discussed in Sana'a the progress of rural power projects and the wind power station project in Makha of Taiz governorate. Electricity Minister Abdulla al-Akwa and a WB power-specialist delegation touched upon the achievement made so far, difficulties hinder the project progress and the solutions to overcome them.
They pointed out the importance of moving forward in reforming and restructuring the electricity field, which if developed will assist in attracting investment.
The Minister praised the WB's efforts in support of electrical system in Yemen, indicating to the difficulties Yemen faces due to the current situation, which hinder power projects in the country.
Al-Akwa stressed the importance of continuing the WB's finance to the power projects, saying that if suspended, major negative repercussions would appear in the country.
In return, the WB's delegation praised the government's interest in developing the power sector in Yemen and its joint work with the WB in order to secure the power needs of the country as well as upgrading networks and take advantage of the renewable energy sources.
