Yemen launches campaign for traffic safety

SANA'A, Dec. 16 (Saba)- Yemen launched on Saturday a campaign for
traffic safety which came within an International Initiative for
Realizing Safety in Road. The campaign is being organized by the Arab Organization for Traffic Safety in cooperation with Yemen Club for Tourism and Car and ministry of interior during the period from 16 to 20 December under slogan "Think before driving". "Deputy Premier Rashad al-Alimi said that Yemen is suffering from increase of traffic accidents due to lack of awareness among drivers and bad roads. He affirmed concern of the government toward traffic safety as the trick accidents impacts on the country economically and socially. He called on all to gather efforts to enhance awareness in the society on traffic safety, wishing such activities could reach other governorates and receive enough media. Chairman of the Yemeni Club for Tourism and Car Alawi al-Shibani said that this campaign comes with the international initiative aims at realizing real traffic safety in developing counties. He attributed increase of the traffic accidents in the county to crazy velocity and ignorance of drivers for traffic signs. He said that participation of the private sector in this event came within concern of the private sector to enhance partnership with the public sector in comprehensive development.
