The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen urged on Thursday all Yemenis to make genuine and credible efforts to settle their disagreements. In a statement to Saba, Jamal Benomar called upon all Yemenis to reach a solution that will serve the greater national interest which should supersede all other interests.
"His visit to Yemen aims at continuing cooperation with President Hadi and all political parties in order to reach a peaceful solution based on the Transition Agreement [GCC Initiative and Implementation Mechanism], the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council resolutions," the statement read.
The current visit comes as Yemen "stands at a serious junction," Benomar said, expressing his deepest regret over the loss of lives due to the unfolding events in the past few days.
The Special Adviser recalled that the Security Council last month urged all the parties in Yemen to adhere to resolving their differences through dialogue and consultation, reject acts of violence to achieve political goals, refrain from provocation, and fully abide by resolutions 2014, 2051 and 2140, expecting that this strong message would be well taken by all the parties.
Mr. Benomar has met with President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and discussed the latest developments.
