Funeral held for 14 soldiers killed by al-Qaeda in Hadramout

A funeral procession was held here on Wednesday for 14 soldiers, whom al-Qaeda militants killed in the eastern Hadramout province last month. On August 8, al-Qaeda militants killed 14 soldiers near Shibam city. The soldiers were kidnapped from a public bus, while on their way from Sayoun city towards the Capital Sana'a. The militants stopped the bus, checked the passengers' IDs and took the soldiers by force, then executed them. The bodies were left on the road.
The soldiers in civilian clothes were returning home from duty, on leave after serving in the area.
The funeral was attended by Defense Minister Mohammed Nasser Ahmed, Chief of Staff Ahmed Al-Ashwal, members of Parliament and Shura Council, senior military and security officials and relatives of martyrs.
During the funeral, mourners expressed condemnation of such criminal act against the military and security individuals, who carry out their national duty to underpin security and stability of the country.
They also called for pursuing such groups till being eliminated from the country.
The funeral took place at the Mosque of al-Ordi compound in the Defense Ministry, and they were buried at the Martyrs Cemetery in the Capital Sana'a.
