The Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) is ready to launch the electronic registration process, SCER chairman said on Monday. The SCER has already prepared all technical supplies and requirements to start electronic registration, Mohammed al-Hakemi said during his meeting with Regional Director of the Middle East and North Africa department at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) Zeinab Abdelkarim.
We just wait for creating the appropriate conditions in the country, providing basic services and headquarters in all governorates and major centers, determining a time plan with all concerned parties and authorities to launch the electronic registration, he said.
The IFES official expressed the Foundation's readiness to provide all kind of support for the SCER, especially in capacity-building, legal and technical areas in addition to support the media center to implement a comprehensive awareness campaign before launching the registration process.
Al-Hakemi and Ms. Abdelkarim stressed the importance to start the electronic registration process to ensure being completed at the set time in order to hold elections and referendum on schedule.
They reviewed the future support the IFES could provide to the SCER and the possibility of further funding to assist the SCER media center and official mass media to play their role in the awareness campaign effectively.
