G10 ambassadors call on Yemeni parties to enhance political transition

The Group of Ten Ambassadors called on Monday all political forces in Yemen to put their agendas aside and work together to enhance the political transition according to the Gulf initiative. In a common statement, they reminded them about the resolution 2140, under which the Security Council has set up a sanction regime that includes an asset freeze and travel ban against peace spoilers and human rights abusers.
As sponsors of the Gulf initiative, the G10 Ambassadors, representing the five permanent members of the Security Council, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the European Union, stressed that they will be closely watching the security and economic situations in Yemen.
They underlined that the economic situation in Yemen, which they described as very difficult, needs fast and long-term actions.
They indicated to the basic services and job opportunities the Yemeni people has frankly demanded since 2011.
The international community has provided a lot to stand by Yemen through providing humanitarian and development assistance and will continue to support President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Government of National Reconciliation in this regard, the statement read.
The G10 Ambassadors reiterated their countries' support to freedom of press, however they stressed that the practice of freedoms should be accompanied by great sense of responsibly.
They also called the government and media institutions to agree on a media code of honor to live up the message the media to a high level of morals and maintain the media freedoms.
