Yemen, FAO sign $ 2.5 mln agreement in food security field

Yemen and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed here on Thursday a $ 2.5 million agreement to finance two projects in the food security field. The agreement was signed by Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Farid Mujawar and the representative of FAO in Yemen Salah Al-Hajj Hassan.
The first project , which is funded by the a $ 1.8 grant from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) of the UN, aims to support the displaced people and the hosting families in Jawf province through the distribution of seeds, fertilizers, forages, poultry and goats for more than two thousand and 550 households, and seeks to improve the beneficiaries' livelihood.
The second project, which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) with a grant of $ 500,000, aims to support the food security and agriculture group in Yemen that represents over 50 organizations benefiting directly from this project.
Following the signing ceremony, Mujawar affirmed the importance of these projects, pointing that his ministry encourages the implementation of such urgent projects that target citizens directly and focus on improving their incomes.
