Seminar on the phenomenon of children smuggling

Sana'a Oct 16 ( Saba ) - Maternal and Childhood Higher Council in
cooperation with Children Protection Program of UNICEF organized on
Monday a seminar on the draft law of the national plan for children smuggling attended by 50 participants from governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The articles of draft consider this phenomenon as a crime, calling for pursuing the criminals and taking serious measures to protect children.
In the seminar the ministry of interior officials said that the contraband children is a universal phenomenon.
They said that work in the field of child protection needs more care by the government that through providing all needed materials and human requirements, because the security system can not confront this phenomenon alone.
They confirmed that there should be an organization for coordination and exchange of expertise with similar organizations in the neighboring countries to contain the problem of children contraband. The chairwoman of the council said that the goals of the seminar are, the discussion of the executive plan for combating children contraband, with the competent governmental and non-governmental bodies.
She added that according to the statistics 90% of this problem happened for using children to smuggle goods and 10% for using them as beggars.
