Authorities will close universities found in violation of regulations and standards of distance learning, a high-ranking Yemeni official warned on Sunday. Speaking to Saba upon his return to Sana’a after taking part in the 14th conference of Arab Ministers of Higher Education in Riyadh, Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Hisham Sharaf said that his ministry is collaborating with a number of Arab countries, particularly Tunisia, to bring education experts to develop the process of open learning in Yemeni universities.
He added that an agreement has been reached with the Saudi Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al-Angari to allow Yemeni students, aged greater than 35 years, to enroll in Saudi universities.
He added that Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide financial grants for Yemeni students studying in Saudi universities as well as providing annually more than 400 scholarships to Yemen.
