A THREE-DAY festival promoting Yemen will open today at Al A'ali Shopping Complex in Seef District. Called Discover Yemen, the event is organised by Yemenia Airlines to celebrate Yemen's tourism, culture, art and people. It is being held in conjunction with Arab World Tours and will showcase photography by Bahraini Shaikha Hanan bint Hassan Al Khalifa, Italian Loredana Mantello and Briton Sophie Middleton, paintings by Yemeni Mazher Nizar, handicrafts, characteristic products and jewellery. The photographers will also speak to visitors about their experiences in Yemen. Clothing, made by Bahraini designer Salman Al Hamad, who buys old and new material to create new styles in jalabiyas, will be on show. Yemeni folk music will be piped in to maintain the festival mood. The Yemenia Airlines Festival will be opened by Culture and National Heritage Assistant Under-Secretary Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa and Yemen Ambassador Ali Abdulla Al Bugiri. The festival is organised in association with Ali Mushaima, publisher of Visitor's Complete Guide to Bahrain and Visitor's Complete Guide to Yemen. Part of the proceeds will go to the Bahrain Society for Children with Behavioural and Communication Difficulties. Underscoring the theme to Discover Yemen, each day a draw will be made for two free tickets each day to Yemen compliments of Yemenia Airlines. The event also heralds the start of the Sana Festival, which opens on July 10 until August 10 in the country's capital. The festival will be open from 7pm to 10pm today and from 10am to 10pm tomorrow and on Saturday.
