$ 3 mln agreement signed for training in reproductive health area

Yaman Foundation for health and social development and the Dutch Embassy signed on Thursday a $ 3 million agreement for supporting a training project in the reproductive health area.
The project, which will be implemented by the Foundation over two years in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, aims at training Gynaecology doctors, technicians, nurses and midwives in a number of provinces in the areas of maternal and child protection during childbirth and reducing the mortality rate and family planning.
During the signing, Undersecretary of Public Health Ministry Dr. Najiba Al-Shawafi praised the Dutch government's support for the health sector in Yemen, especially in the area of reproductive health, and hoped to continue this support ,which would improve the health sector and develop its services.
Al-Shawafi valued the efforts of Yaman Foundation in the area of reproductive health and its projects and activities in this aspect, emphasizing the importance of exploiting the support in improving maternal and child health and developing health services.
She explained that the Ministry of Public Health had prepared a plan of $ 8 million in the field of qualification of medical staff working in health facilities and submitted it to the Dutch Embassy , based on which the embassy adopted the support, noting that the ministry is now moving to a number of international organizations to cover the remaining amount so that it can complete and implement the plan.
For his part, the Dutch ambassador to Yemen Jeroen Verhl stressed the importance of enhancing a culture of reproductive health and family planning to avoid serious complications that may affect mothers and children during childbirth.
The ambassador pointed out that the Dutch government had pledged $ 100 million in the Riyadh conference to support the sectors of security, water and reproductive health in Yemen, and that the project to support the training of medical staff is a part of this amount by 3 percent.
For his part, CEO of Yaman Foundation Dr. Ashraf Badr pointed that the project is a simple step towards improving the reproductive health situation and developing the capacities of human resources to address the maternal and child mortality.
