http://www.english.hadhramaut.info IFAD to carry out $75 mln agricultural project in Yemen [The Source: Mukalla/Hadramoutinfo/Saba.net - 11/11/2012] International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is to carry out a new agricultural project in Yemen worth $75 million.


During his meeting with Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Farid Mujawar, IFAD Country Programme Manager Omer Zafar said that Fund is making now the arrangements required to launch the project.

The project aims to improve the rural communities and develop agriculture, livestock and infrastructure in the targeted areas through supporting the agriculture and rural development programs in Dhale, Dhamar, Lahj, Baidha and Hodaida governorates, Zafar said.

He said that $35 million of the project's total cost have been collected and IFAD is searching for funding to cover the project's financing gap, stressing that the project would assist in enhancing the agricultural development that would strengthen the food security in Yemen.

The Minister hailed the IFAD's role in advancing the agricultural sector in the country, reviewing the challenges deterring such development.

During the meeting, Mujawar and Zafar discussed the progress of the IFAD-funded agricultural projects in Yemen, including the community resource management project in Dhale governorate and the rural development project in Dhamar governorate.
