The statement was made by GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif al-Zayani in an interview with Saudi paper Okaz prior to a GCC summit to be convened in Riyadh on Tuesday. Al-Zayani affirmed the Gulf States' commitment to the Gulf's initiative accepted by the Yemeni government and the Joint Meeting Parties and its partners to tackle the situation in Yemen. The GCC-brokered initiative is considered to be the best available solution to settle the current crisis, stop bloodshed in Yemen and to preserve the unity, security and stability of this brotherly country, GCC secretary general said."The main goal of the Gulf initiative was and still is to assist our bothers in Yemen", al-Zayani said, pinning hopes that the Gulf efforts will end up to tackling the Yemeni crisis.He pointed out that the GCC's leaders will discuss at their Tuesday meeting the events in the Arab and regional areas, including in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Syria.
