Yemen discusses developments in accession to WTO

The General Policy Committee on Yemen's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) discussed on Saturday the latest negotiations' developments.
During a meeting chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Ali Mujawar, the committee reviewed the steps achieved recently either at the bilateral or multi-parties levels to complete Yemen's accession to the WTO. The committee was briefed on a report of Chairman of the National Committee for Preparation and Negotiation with the WTO on the developments in the accession process containing the meeting's results of the task-force of Yemen's accession to the WTO held late in 2010 in Geneva.The report also included the outcomes of the task-force mutual negotiations and the bilateral agreement signed with the United States that would accelerate Yemen's joining to the WTO in addition to the relevant legislations submitted to the parliament to fulfill Yemen's pledges to complete negotiation process.Another report was reviewed on the ongoing bilateral negotiations between Yemen and Ukraine, which is the only country remaining to finalize the bilateral negotiations to Yemen's accession to the WTO. The report showed the offers presented by Ukraine to settle the rest issues to sign a bilateral agreement between the two countries.In this regard, the committee assigned Minister of Trade and Industry to on directly negotiate with Ukraine's Ministers of Trade and Foreign Affairs in order to speed up the fulfillment of the requirements requisite to Yemen's accession to the WTO. The General Policy Committee also reviewed a package of legislations approved by Parliament and issued via republican decrees and others are about to be approved. It reviewed the decisions required to be issued by the Cabinet to meet legislative and legal prerequisites to join the WTO.
