http://www.english.hadhramaut.info British Foreign Secretary praises President Saleh’s initiative [The Source: hadhramaut.info/Almotamar.net, - 09/02/2011]  President Ali Abdullah Saleh has on Wednesday received the visiting British Foreign Secretary William Hague and his accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Yemeni Vice President Abid Rabu Mansour Hadi.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations and areas of cooperation between the two friendly countries as well as the ways of enhancing them, particularly the preparations for the meeting of Yemen Friends Group to be held in Riyadh early next March. The meeting also discussed Britain’s contribution to supporting the process of development and democracy in Yemen within then Group of Yemen friends and bilaterally.

In the meeting there was discussion of many issues that are of interest for the relations, among theme are related to the process of reforms in Yemen, efforts for combating terror, security cooperation between the two courtiers in addition to discussion of the situations in the region especially the present developments in Tunisia, Egypt, the Horn of Africa and the situations in Somalia.

President Saleh expressed his high valuation of Britain’s supporting stand to Yemen and its security, stability and unity and its development and democratic march, praising the efforts exerted by Britain in this regard since the convention of London conference of donors in 2006, althea way through London conference for Yemen Friends to its role within the frame of the European Union and the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.The President has also affirmed Yemen keenness on its relations with Britain at various levels in the way realizing the common interests of the two countries and peoples.President Saleh hopes that the next meeting of Yemen Friends in Riyadh would come out with the aspired for results, mainly the establishment of a fund for supporting projects of development in Yemen and so that the donor states play their role in implementing the projects in the frame of needs of development and the plan prepared by the Yemeni government in this respect.
For his part, the British Foreign Secretary Hague praised President Saleh’s initiative he has announced in the recent joint meeting of the parliament and the Shoura Council on his call for dialogue and making a package of reforms.Hague has also affirmed Britain’s keenness on enhancing its relations with Yemen and development of areas of cooperation and continuation of supporting efforts of development and process of democracy in Yemen, pointing out that Britain supports a united, stable and prosperous Yemen.Hague has also confirmed Britain’s support for Yemen during the upcoming meeting of Yemen Friends Group in Riyadh in the way assuring the coming out with positive results supporting efforts of developments in Yemen.The meeting was also attended by Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Mujawar, Chairman of the Shoura Council Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani, Minister of Civil Service and Securities Dr Yahya al-Shuaibi, Deputy Foreign Minister, Assistant Secretary General of the President\cy Office and Yemen’s ambassador to Britain.For the British side the meeting was attended by state minister at the British International Development Office, the Head of the Middle East Department at the British Foreign Office and the British ambassador to Yemen.
