http://www.english.hadhramaut.info Yemen: Big challenges facing MDGs in MENA [The Source: GENEVA/hadharamaut.info/sabanews.net - 18/01/2011] Yemen has drawn up its fourth five-year plan to meet the millennium development goals MDGs, but achieving these goals faces big challenges in low- and middle-income countries in the MENA region, Public Health and Population said on Tuesday.

In his speech to the 128th session of the executive board of the World Health Organization in Geneva, Abdul Karim Rasa'a said among the big challenges faced in the MENA region are the unequal distribution of highly qualified human resources, especially in poor and deprived areas, extreme poverty, complicated emergencies and deficiencies of health systems.
He urged the WHO member states to support the development of their infrastructures, economies and social structures to be able of boosting productivity and achieving sustainable development taking into consideration the need for increasing job opportunities and improving standards of living, with a special focus on the poor.The time has come for the governments to work together to establish better solutions to reducing risks and increasing health benefits, he said.Furthermore, Rasa'a called for coordinating efforts and updating data to build the capacity of leaderships in the WHO members through promoting the cooperation among various sectors, preparing effective tools and measures to help local communities made better decisions, establishing gender equality and providing health and nutrition services within the family medicine
