About 1.13 million Yemeni expatriates transferred $ 1.5 billion to their country last year and the remittances are expected to further increase in the coming two years, the report issued by the World Bank said. Yemen was ranked the seventh among the top ten largest remittance-receiving countries and the fourth among the top ten remittance-receiving poor countries in the MENA region, the report, titled facts of migration and remittances 2010, said.
The ten poor countries were Sudan, Tajikistan, Haiti, Yemen, the West Bank, Gaza, Togo, Ivory Coast, Myanmar, Cameroon and Tonga.
