Japan supports water project in Jawf

Japan has decided to extend a grant amounting to US$100,396 to improve Water Supply System at Wadi Al-Shagan in Jawf province, Yemen
In a press release, the Japanese Embassy in Sana'a said that the grant was under the scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects” which aims at supporting small-scale community-based projects in basic human needs fields, such as primary health care, basic education and water in the developing countries.The contract was signed at the Embassy on Monday by Mr. Mitsunori Namba, Ambassador of Japan to Yemen and Mr. Abdu Al-Hameed Amer, Chairman of Peace and Development Society."The project will benefit 900 people in 11 villages in Wadi Al- Shagan Area and 150 IDPs (Internally Displaced Person) from Saada province by providing them with water supply facilities including a water purifier", the embassy said."The villagers, who live in dry area which lacks of clean water, will have an access to safe water through this project".In the last Japanese fiscal year, Japan has funded 18 projects in Yemen under the Grass-Roots scheme with a total amount of US$1.5 million
