Yemen writes Gulf over championship

Yemen demanded on Friday heads of the Gulf Football Associations to defend their previous decisions over Yemen's readiness and ability to host the 20th Gulf Football Championship later this year in Aden and Abyan Provinces.
Secretary General of the Yemeni Football Association Hamid Shaibany said the association sent urgent letters to heads and Secretaries General of the Gulf Football Associations after calling an urgent meeting Saturday in Kuwait by the six GCC states without the participation of Yemen and Iraq to decide where the championship will take place. Shaibani affirmed Yemen is able to host the sport event, pointing to Yemen's efforts in preparation for the event.He also touched upon previous recognition of Gulf States that Yemen can host the 20th championship during meetings in Kuwait and Qatar.Moreover, Shaibani said that Secretaries General of the Gulf Football Associations will visit Aden in July to familiarize with arrangements and predations for the championship in terms of accomplished infrastructure.On the margins of the visit, they will hold a meeting and then report to the heads of the associations about the readiness of the country, he said.In this context, Secretary General of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Ubaid al-Anzi said Friday that the fate of the 20th Gulf Football Championship will be decided on Saturday in Kuwait.The topic will be a main theme on the agenda of the meeting that will gather the executive council of the Gulf Olympic Committees Heads, Secretaries General of the Gulf Football Associations, Gulf countries representatives and the GCC Secretariat General, he said.The outcomes of the meeting will be submitted to Heads of the Gulf Olympic Committees for final approval, he said.The final decision over the matter will be one of the three options: approving Yemen as the host and holding the championship on the specified time, delaying the championship or changing the host country, he concluded
