Yemen says will hold dialog with Gitmo returnees

Yemen will be ready to hold a dialogue with the returnees from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, once they are deported by the U.S. authorities, Endowments and Guidance Minister Hamoud al-Hitar has told al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.
The Yemeni authorities have held a dialogue with a large number of al-Qaeda members in three phases: the first was through surveillance that included security and intellectual parts, al-Hitar said.The second phase included holding training courses on human development with the aim to reintegrate them into the society, he said.The move has already yielded changing the concepts digested by many of the young Qaeda members, he added.The third phase, which is yet to start, is about their reintegration through providing job opportunities and resolving their standing problems with their families and other people, the minister concluded.Yemenis account for nearly half of the remaining detainees in the U.S. Gitmo jail which the Obama administration wants to close as soon as possible.The U.S. has recently released some of Yemeni detainees including one who was sent to Spain in the last few weeks.Meanwhile, Yemen insists on sending the rest detainees to their homeland, assuring it has prepared effective rehabilitation programs for them to them from regrouping.
