Yemen reiterated on Wednesday its incessant commitment and cooperation with other countries to encounter the maritime piracy and armed robbery against ships in the Gulf of Aden and Western Indian Ocean.

The statement was made by the Deputy Executive Chairman of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs Hani al-Baw'ani in a speech he delivered at the meetings of the 87th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) held in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in the British capital, London.Al-Baw'ani highlighted the role Yemen plays to implement the Djibouti code to combat maritime piracy and armed robbery against ships in Gulf of Aden and Western Indian Ocean, which was signed at a meeting held in Djibouti on January 2009 by the region's countries.He reviewed Yemen's efforts to execute its obligations as an active member in IMO and especially its efforts in completing the establishment of the regional center to coordination and information exchange in Sana'a as a prerequisite requirement of the Djibouti code of conduct.He talked about the importance of the center, though which all countries of Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea will exchange information and coordinate efforts to carry out joint anti-piracy tasks to enhance maritime security.Al-Baw'ani also reviewed the technical efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs and the successful military operations carried out by the marine and coastguard forces to rescue a number of Yemeni and foreign ships from pirates
