Yemen second in Arab World on freedom of information- ACHRS

Yemen has been ranked second among Arab states on freedom of information.
In his report coinciding with World Freedom Press Day, the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies ( ACHRS) said Yemen got 82 per cent in terms of freedom of information following Jordan which got 87 per cent.Jordan was the first Arab country to issue a special law on freedom of information.The report hailed the law improvements in Yemen supported by the government and the civil society and Yemen's draft law on freedom of information, currently in Parliament, saying the law is perfect and in compliance with international standards.The new Yemeni media law gives the Yemeni people and foreigners the right for freedom of information, based on that this is one of basic human rights. It also bans jailing a journalist for his opinions and sets penalties for press crimes as fines, not more than $ 750 or a jail term not more than a year.
