Cabinet discusses 2nd national report of MDGs [04/May/2010]

The Cabinet discussed here on Tuesday the second national report of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), submitted by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
The report included clarifications on the overall aspects relating to the progress in the implementation of the Millennium eight goals.The report dealt with the progress in achieving those goals at the national level, affirming that Yemen nears to achieve some goals, especially with regards to achieving basic education for all, reducing mortality of children under the age of five and the fight against certain diseases, in the light of the information and figures that reflect the size of the progress in these goals.At the same time the report stressed the importance of intensifying efforts and mobilizes resources to enhance the pace of performance in the other goals, noting ,in this regard, to the progress made in the indexes of the social gender and the environmental substantiality.Moreover, the report included a package of policies and procedures to be carried out by the relevant authorities as a future agenda to accelerate the level of achievement of the MDGs, particularly the allocation of financial resources , pointing to the importance of overcoming the challenges that prevent the completion of the achievement of policies and programs related to achieving those goals fully, topped by the structural challenges and weak financial sustainability and developments facing the development and in particular the negative effects of the financial crisis , food crisis, climate changes and security challenges.The cabinet approved the completion of the report discussion and the actions proposed by the Ministry of Planning in a special session next SundayThe Cabinet approved the completion of its discussion of the report and the actions proposed by the Ministry of Planning in an extraordinary session next Sunday in order to allow ministries to submit their observations accurately and to come up with clear decisions enhancing the level of implementation of policies aiming at achieving the MDGs completely
